CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

CORPORATION STAFF ARRANGEMENTS The Finance Committee of the City Council recommends that similar arrangements to those of the past two years relative to the granting of Christ-mas-New Year holiday leave for employees be agreed to for the current year. This year Boxing Day falls on Sunday, December 26, and it is recommended that the holiday be observed on the following Monday. The five-day working week also eliminates Saturdays from the holiday arrangements, otherwise it is recommended that the employees be granted leave with pay for for the full working week between Christmas and New Year. As hitherto, this would apply to employees whose services may be regarded as “ nonessential,” who have six months’ completed service to their credit, and who do not get a fixed annual holiday. Work would cease on Friday, December 24, and recommence on Monday, January 3. In the case of those employees whose work is essential during the holiday period in question, and who would thus not be granted a holiday as above, it is recommended that such employees be granted a similar period of leave with pay at the first convenient opportunity after the holidays.
