QUEEN MARY'S SUMMER HOUSE
Queen Mary returned to Marlborough House on September 25, rather I earlier than was oi'iginally intended, I states the ‘ Daily Telegraph.’ Her new summer house has now been completed. It stands facing south at the Carlton House-terrace end of the garden, only a few yards from the animal cemetery, where many of Queen Alexandra’s pets are buried. Built of brick and ’ stone, it is about 15ft square and has a wide entrance with brick pillars. The tables and chairs are made of oak, and the summer house will also contain the necessary paraphernalia for making afternoon tea. This is the first permanent summer house Marlborough House has ever possessed. A summer house was there in Queen Alexandra’s day, but this was a movable revolving one which the Queen installed for the use of Sir Dighton Probyn, whose health was not good towards" the end of his time at Marlborough House.
