THE MONTAGUE SHOW
ATTRACTIVE COSTUMES THROUGHOUT * Let’s Go Places,’ with its everchanging scenes set in different countries, gives great scope to the designer of scenes and frocks. The most gorgeous colouring and exquisite rich velvets, silks, and ninons were used to advantage in the harem scene, when each girl wore over her suit that glittered with pearl and diamante embroidery, a long flowing cloak of silk velvet, which was lavishly embossed with gold and silver tinsel. The graceful movements of the girls as they grouped and regrouped themselves showed these wraps to their best advantage. Quite a different note was struck in the Norwegian act, when against a glittering snow-clad mountain background the chorus, in brief white and silver ballet suits, drew in a sleigh that carried the magnificent fairy queen in a dazzling silver frock. In this scene the penguins were very cleverly portrayed, and their dance was one of the highlights of the evening. Another scheme worthy of mention was used in ‘ Old Vienna,’ when, bathed in misty blue and lavender lights, the girls appeared in sweetly-flowered and fluttering frocks, beneath which peeped out hefrilled pantalettes. Poke bonnets and mittens completed these very demure costumes. Lastly, mention must be made of the very effective lavender ballet costumes worn by the two burlesque ballet dancers.
