WATER POLO
MATCH WITH H.M.S. LEANBER The first water polo match of the season was played at the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club’s hour at the Municipal Baths last night, a team from the club defeating H.M.S. Leander team by 7 goals to 4 after an enjoyable game. Considering their lack of practice, the sailors performed creditably, especially in the second spell, when Bowden found the net three times. At half-time the score was 5-0 in favour of the home team, but_ the ship’s team offered better opposition after the interval. Goals for Kiwi were scored by W. Dyson (3), M. Taylor (2), R. Geddes, and A. Thomas. For H.M.S. Leander Bowden scored three goals and Simpson one. The teams were:—H.M.S. Leander: Sto. Holliday, Sto. Bowden, A.B. Hawkes, A.B. Maddox, Sergt. Simpson, Shipwright Harden, and Marine Kyle. Kiwi: D. Pickard, D. Reid, W. Johnson, M, Taylor, W. Dyson, A. Thomas, and R. Geddes. Chief Petty-officer W. G. Glover ably controlled the game. Both teams were entertained at a social function in the baths clubroom after the match.
