BROADCASTING.

TO TH* EDITOR. Sir, —I am afraid that not only is that “mightiest in the mightiest” quality of mercy lacking in the personality of “ Scratch-Hang,” but the rare virtue, patience, has been overshadowed by the meaner traits of sarcasm and criticism. The former he has misdirected, and the latter, I think, ho is

lot in the position to give. We, the maority of the people whose intelligence ias been so sadly insulted kr«'w so little of the intricacies of a modern transmitter that it is better lor us to “ sing dumb.” 1 hope, therefore, that in the very near future “ ScratchBang ” will have cause to feel ashamed of his mild outburst and will be glad to acclaim 4ZB as New Zealand’s best. —I am, etc., Future Station. October 15. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I would like to add further to the remarks of “ Scratch-Bang.” On listening to the speeches or those

worthy Mk connected with the opens ing of the station 4ZB, one looked for* ward to something really good in th» way of entertainment, but perhaps this has yet to be put over the air. However, suggestions were invited, and I offer one now. As the station is a Government one and the Government stands for a 40-hour week, let it put the 40-hour principle into operation with regard to the programmes broadcast daily. Previously the old station left a lot to bo desired in its programmes. but I must give it credit now, and conclude by saying that 40 hours of the present 4ZB is enough for one week.—l am, etc.. Broadcast* October 16*
