DANCING COMPETITION.
TO THB BDITOB. Sir, —In connection with the competition now being held in tho Town Hall, I am aware that it is to be judged by public vote. I am quite in favour of the competition, but do not think public voting is a satisfactory method, as the public are more liable to pick the most popular couple and not the best dancers. The general public do not understand the technical points of modern ballroom dancing. To }ook nice on tho floor is not everything; you must have basic steps for a competition. If the right couple do not represent Otago in the New Zealand competition the standard of Otago’s dancing will be lowered considerably. I suggest that a judge be brought from
another town, so that every couph will have an equal! chance, as many o. the competitors have been practising hard for this big event. —1 am, etc.. Fair Judging October 15.
