ITALIANS HARASSED
UNRULY ABYSSINIAN CHIEFTAINS MUCH GUERRILLA WARFARE Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, October 6. (Received October 7, at 1 p.m.) ‘ The Times ’ says the Abyssinian chieftains still govern Abyssinia. They are carrying on guerrilla warfare, and are harassing the Italians at every opportunity. Recently they attacked Adowa, in defence of which 200 Italian soldiers and Askaris were killed, resulting in Marshal Graziani abandoning his visit, despite the arrangements made for his reception. Guerrilla warriors earlier attacked jMakale, while certain points on the Addis AbabaMassawa road were continually endangered. One Abyssinian' raid smashed and burned 200 transport lorries. So far the cultivation of cereals has not been resumed, despite the local needs. Millet, which, before the Italian occupation was exported in large quantities, is now imported. The Abyssinians have almost entirely abandoned the land. Agriculture is at a standstill, and foodstuffs are very scarce. The Italian morale is low.
