GOLD ROD'S CONDITION

SYDNEY, October 7. (Received October 7, at 1 p.m.) , No positive explanation of the cause of Gold Rod’s condition could be advanced by the veterinary surgeon, Mr Davis. Nearly an hour after the race the horse was in a distressed condition. His loins had swollen and ho had a rapid pulse. His eyes > were bloodshot' and his nostrils were‘ of the wrong colour. It is thought that during the race Gold Rod got down on his off hind fetlock, which had caused Price concern during his training, and pulled. a scab off, causing the horse to become upset. The sultry conditions also probably affected him adversely. Mr Davis stated last night that the horse’s unhappy condition was only temporary, and that there was nothing to prevent Gold Rod going to Melbourne,
