Mr F. J. Williams, president of the South Island Motor Union, left to-day for Wanganui to attend the annual meeting of the North Island Motor Union. Mr John Dunlop, of Edendale, was a passenger by the through express for the north to-day. bound for Wellington for a meeting of tho Dairy Produce ' Board. Messrs A. S. Holms, E. K. Sim, and H. Smith went north to-day _ from Southland for the annual meeting o£ the New Zealand Meat Board at Wellington. Messrs James Begg and J.; D. Revie, the Otago delegates, entrained at Dunedin. Mr J. E. Stevens, 8.A., Dip. Ed.* first assistant at the Otautau School* has been appointed head master of the Naseby School. A Press Association cablegram front London states that tho Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) is returning to London from Aberdeenshire on "Wednesday. The following are the successful candidates who sat for the first aid examination of the class conducted by the St. John Ambulance Association at the; Electric Department, Room, Cumberland street: —Messrs G. Armstrong, DM'Kenzio ,W. L. Dodd. R. S. Knight, V. M. Arthur, A. T. E. M'Crorie, G. Dickson, R. A. Penman, W. J. Shanks; J. G. Smith, A. J. Salmon, V. R. Pringle, T. C. Smith. The lecturer for tho class was Dr B. Monheimer, tha examiner, Dr A. Perry, and the deJ monstrators members of the Loco. Ambulance Division. A pleasant function was held at tha Westland Hospital and Old People’s Homo yesterday, when a gathering to celebrate the one hundred and seventh birthday of Mr George Anderson, an inmate of the Old People’s Home but at present a fiatient in the Westland Hosipital, was held. Mr Anderson was visited by Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., M’.ss Anderson (matron), Mr T. W. Duff (chairman), and Messrs E. L. Park and B. W. Heenan (members'of ilia Hospital Board). Congratulatory messages were also received from the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) and the Hon. P, C. “Webb (Minister of Mines). In addition’ to many other messages of congratulation the inmates of the Old People’s Home visited the hospital to congratulate Mr Anderson. • Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr F. Richardson (Wellington), Mr H. *D. C-apper, Mr L. Cookson, and Miss M. Parson (Christchurch), Mr A. L. Lamb (Timaru), and Mr G, C. Hamilton (Gore). Latest arrivals at Wain’s Hotel are Mr A. C. Brandt (London), Mr and Mrs F. A. J. Carter, Miss Margaret Carter, Masters John, Brian, and David Carter, Mrs G. W. Francis, and Mr Graham Francis (Australia), Mr Roy C. Matthews, Mrs Hewson, Mr S.
