NOTES ON THE RACING [By St. Clair.] Corowa and Last Link were withdrawn from the Trial Hurdles, for which Redolent (1,160-993), Sunny Comet (912-947), Golden Lap (674-753), Fireguard (286-497), and The Surgeon (261-510) were the best fancied. Primak led Redolent and Solwit over the initial hurdle, but at the next (in front of the stand) Redolent jumped to the front and led Primak and Solwit out of the straight. Golden Lap unseating his rider. Going to the back tho favourite drew out two lengths clear from Primak and Solwit, with a big gap to Sunny Comet at the head of the others. At tho fence near the six furlongs Primak fell and brought down Fireguard. Redolent was three lengths clear of Solwit and Sunny Comet at the far turn, but approaching the home turn Solwit joined Redolent, and The Surgeon began to move up. Sqlwit was half a length in front of the favourite at the last fence, where Sunny Comet ran out and interfered with The Surgeon, the pair jumping out the side wing. This cost The Surgeon the race, as after losing several lengths he got up within a length of Solwit. Redolent was half a length away third, a length in front of Sunnv Comet.

Queen Dorothy was withdrawn - from the Paparua Handicap, for which Alma (1,425-1.218), Bay Duke (907-1,150), Rebel Chief (882-1.147), Pakanui (681903) and Araboa (460-846) were the best hacked. Knockfin failed to Iqave the barrier, and Alma was a little slow to jump out, but quickly took charge, aha with Pelmet led on to the course proper from Bay Duke, Bun Fight. Pakanui, and Top Rank. Then Rebel Chief ran up. to the leaders, but his effort was short lived, and in the run home Alma won comfortably by a length from Bay Duke, with Greek Gold half a length away third. Araboa finished fast half a length away fourth, then came Golden Dart and Rebel Chief.

Toreador and John Charles were withdrawn from tho Jumpers’ Flat Handicap, and Clarion Call (867-1,285), Cottingham (842-1,212), Journet (552917), Collision (541-917), and Blue Tiger (514-925) were the best backed. Clarion Call led Giggleswick and Last Link out of the straight. Then Journet ran to the front and led Cottingham the favourite, and Collision into and along the back. After rounding the far turn Cottingham joined Journet in the lead, with Collision, Mount Yal, and Clarion Call next. As the field raced across the top Journet dropped out approaching the home turn, and Cottingham was first into tho straight from Collision, Jolly Beggar, Mount Val, and Last lank. At tho distance Jolly Beggar. Last Link, and Cottingham were almost abreast, with Collision and Bine Tiger almost on terms. Jolly Beggar, on the outside, had the best of the nm to the finish and won by a head from Last Link, with halfheads to Cottingham, Collision, and Blue Tiger, then a gap to Master Musk.

Adienx, Short Circuit, Valantna, Solpit, and Stromboli were withdrawn from the Cashmere Plate, and Rockingham f 1.819-1,022). Cocksure (.1.0701.406),. Happy Night (898-1,253). Settlement (629-939), and Great Pal

(367-579), were the best backed. The race was run in a bad light. When the colours could be picked up Screamer, Great Pal, and Cocksure were in the first line, with Aggravate and Rockingham next. Great Pal and Screamer were followed on to the course proper by Cocksure and Mishna. Great Pal easily hold his advantage in tho run home, heating Cocksure by a length and a-half, with Screamer a Imad away third, then Mishna, Pol Roger, ami Aggravate next..
