(Received August 10, at 11 a.m.) Cartonnet achieved his record by using the new butterfly aluke, but to-day the Russian, Boitchenko, using tho breast stroke, broke Cartonnet’s record by one second [ A cable published yesterday stated that the French swimmer Jacques Cartonnet swam 100 metres in 69 4-ssec, a world record.] MALA SOLD FOR £7,000 SYDNEY, August 10. (Received August 10, at 11 a.m.) Mr Russell has sold Mala to Mr Alan Cooper for £7,000, subject to a veterinary examination. Although the price being paid for Mala is dwarfed by the £19,000 Mr Cooper paid for Talking, few thoroughbreds have realised bigger figures in Australia. GOLF IN AUSTRALIA RECORD ENTRY FOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP SYDNEY, August 10, (Received August 10, at 11 a.m.) A record entry of 165 has been received for the Australian open golf championship, which will bo held next month. The New Zealanders, I. Godby and R, J. Ward, are competing.
