COLLECTOR’S THEFTS

DRINK AND SADDLING [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., August 6. Pleading guilty to two charges of theft involving in all £34, the property of the Wellington Timber Yards and Sawmillers’ Union, Francis Murray Boggs, aged 27, a labourer, was ordered by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, on condition that he took out a prohibition order and made restitution. Detective-sergeant Meiklejohn said that the accused was employed at a local timber mill, and had been appointed by the union as a collector of dues. Towards the end of 1986 payments were not made regularly. The accused had admitted spending the money when taxed by the union secretary. He blamed drink and gambling for his lapse.
