• —Vice-Regal.—* The Governor-General wap to he present at the Springboks match at Wellington this afternoon. In the evening he will attend the annual dinner of the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners.—Press Association. —Ministerial.— The Hon. F. Jones (Postmaster-Gene-ral and Minister of Defence) this afternoon opened the new infant school* at Caversham. He brings his visit to a close to-morrow, when he leaves by the night express for Christchurch. He will be accompanied by his private Secretary, Mr F. H. Sherwood. A Christchurch Association message states that a tour of the wheat grooving districts of Canterbury and North Otago will be made by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Sullivan), commencing on Monday, August 16. The object of the Minister is to meet the farmers and their wives, and to.disease with them the problems associated with the industry. The Minister will make the tour in his capacity of chairman 6| the Wheat Committee, ; Mr J. H. Duncan, accompanied 'by Mrs Duncan, left this morning bn holiday visit to Samoa. -1 Mr F. Goodwin travelled to Christchurch by the express this morning. Mr W. F. Forrester left for Wellington to-day. ' _ '. v : Mr B. S. Irwin left this morning foil Christchurch. - ‘ Mr P. W. Piper travelled to Christchurch to-day. ' Mr K. Clark left for Christchurch this morning. I , Mr J, W. Beanland (Mayor of Christchurch), Mr R. M. M'Millan (chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board),Mr C. H. Clibborn (secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board), andMrJ. J. W. Pollard (director of the Solith Islands Travel who attended the Executive' Council meeting last night of the association, left lor the north this morning. Mr H. J. Greenfield/ who has been! appointed to. the reporting staff of the ‘Star-Sun,’ Christchurch, was farewelled by his colleagues on the literary, staff of the ‘ Evening Star ’ yesterday afternoon. In making a presentation! the editor (Mr W. F. Alexander) referred to the personal qualities and ability of Mr Greenfield in, his 10 years of reporting, making particular reference to the value or his contributions to the building page under the penname of “ Cornice.” The good wifihea of members of the Albion Cricket Club, of which Mr Greenfield was secretary for several years, and of .cricketers generally for the help he had given, the sport were extended by Mr W. Gr,Pickard. The Leader of the Opposition (Hog.Adam Hamilton) was a passenger by the through express for Invercargill yesterday; During the week Messrs James Torrance (chairman) and T. Begg. (honorary secretary) of'the Ship Auckland Association conveyed to Mr John' Ogg the heartiest congratulations-and best wishes of the members of the association on attaining his ninetieth birthday- " Mr F. S. Arthur, who for the. past few years has been in charge of the wool and produce department of the local branch of Messrs Dalgety-and.Co. Ltd., and has bpen iv.nointed New,Zealand representative i London on the International Secretariat for Wool Publicity and Research, will leave Dunedin on Tuesday, and will sail from Auckland by the Arawa on Saturday nest. Mr B. G. Maddox, who won the last ‘ Otago Daily Times ’ flying scholarship, and has received an appointment, to 'thp Royal Air Force in England, is to leave Dunedin next Wednesday. ■ He Was met hv the staff of the Hillside Railway Workshops yesterday- and presented with a gold wristlet watch by*the works manager, Mr J. M. Slowly. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr F. Nicholls (London), Mr John N< Beanland, Mr C- H. Clibborn, and Mr L. P. Martin (Christchurch), Miss A* 0. Oilier (Invercargill),, and Mr T.
