NEW CHURCH BUILDING

FOUNDATION LAYING A function of importance to members and friends of the Church of Christ, North-east Valley, will take place tomorrow afternoon, when the foundation stones of the new church building will be laid. Mr W. T. Wilson and Principal A. L. Haddon have been invited to perform this ceremony. Mr W. King, building supervisor, will preside, and Mr T. Arnold (who was an original member of the congregation formed 50 years ago last April) will also take part. Since firo destroyed the previous building on March 13 last the members and friends have co-operated to raise £1,600 by direct giving and various efforts. Congregations of several denominations have shown goodwill and practical sympathy by their generous gifts. Mr W. T. Wilson donated £SOO. _ A groat deal of tho work necessary in preparation for erecting the new building was done by the voluntary efforts of the officers and men of the church. It is expected that the church will be opened before the end of the year with a debt of only a few hundred pounds. A special feature of Saturday’s function will bo an opportunity given to all who wish to lay a brick in the wall, the .privilege to be acknowledged by a donation of 2s 6d per brick.
