OBITUARY
MR R. E. ROBERTSSN [Pee United Phess Association.] WELLINGTON, August 3. . The death has occurred of Mr Richard Edward Roherteon, aged 76, who, prior to his retirement, was a brake expert for 'New Zealand Railways. Mr Robertson came to New Zealand in 1900 and supervised the equipping of the whole of the rolling stock of the Government railways _ with Westing-' house brakes. The fitting at Auckland of the first braking system on any tramway in New Zealand was _ also supervised by Mr Robertson. He joined the head office of the New Zealand Railways in 1915. - As originator of the New Zealand Safety First League for Children, Mr Robertson addressed school children, for many years on safety first matters, and he supplied free to parents and children posters containing special instructions to children. He leaves a widow* four sons, and one daughter. MR A. P. GREEN AUCKLAND, August 3. A well-known former executive officer of the Bank of New Zealand, Mr A. P. ; Green, died at Tauranga, in his seventy-ninth _year. Mr Green entered the service of the bank at Picton in 1875, later becoming manager of the Blenheim, Oamaru, Timaru, and other South Island branches. He was appointed an inspector in 1904, and was manager at Dunedin and Wellington between 1906 and 1916. In the latter year he was appointed chief travelling inspector, and in 1919 was made manager at Auckland. He retired in 1924. Some months later he was_ appointed by the Government to bo chief auditor, and held that position until 1930, when ill-health compelled him finally to resign.
