Venn re-i ceived the congratulations of their colleagues on the council at its monthly meeting last night on being appointed justices of the peace. , , The attainment by tho Rev. Alexander Grieg of his ninety-ninth birthday nest Tuesday was the subject of warm commendation by tho Dunedin Presbytery at its monthly meeting last night. Presbytery decided to send him. a congratulatory message on Tuesday,, and it is also to be officially at a visit to his home to extend Presbytery’s cordial greetings. The Rev.. Grieg was ordained in 1867, his first charge being on the Peninsula. The president and several members of the Master Builders’ Association visited Mr G. Clark at his residence in Scarba street, Iloslyn, yesterday to offer him hearty congratulations on the attainment of his eighty-eighth birthday. Mr Clark, who is the oldest member of the association, has always taken' a keen interest in its affairs, and is now a life member. At the annual dinner of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Society evening it was decided to send a cablegram of congratulation to Mr D* A. R. Moloney, of the New Zealand cricket' team in England, on his performances throughout the tour. Mr F. B. Kerr, tho Otago cricket representative, left this morning for Australia, where he is likely to take up a position. ' The Mayor of West Harbour (Mr Arthur Smith) left this morning for Wellington, where he will join the New Zealand farmers who will make a special tour of the eastern States of Australia. Dr N. Speight left by this morning’s express en route to Melbourne. ' A Wellington Association telegram! states that tho Rev. Gordon Melville M‘Kenzie, formerly of Christchurch* and acting vicar of St. Paul’s, Wellington, has been appointed vicar of St,Michael and All Angels, Kelburn. At the Union Football Club’s social function last evening opportunity was taken to make a .presentation to Mr Val Newall, tho well-known Union forward, who is leaving Dunedin. The chairman (Mr T. O’Shea) said that the club was sorry to lose the ■ services of Mr Newall, who bad been a good club member, as well as a fine player. On behalf of the club, he wished him: every success 1 in the future, and handed him a solid leather travelling case. ■Mr V ,T. A. Moodie, manager of the Napier branch of Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., has-been appointed superintendent for New Zealand in succession to the late Mr George Black. Mr Moodie joined of Messrs Dalgety and Co., at Dunedin, on March 1,1897, _ and subsequently took over tho position of representative of the company for the Palmerston .North district.He was appointed manager at Palmerston North on January 1, 1907, and held that position until February 1, 1925,_ when he was promoted to tho position of manager of the Napier, branch, with control over the Hawke’* Bay and Poverty Bay districts.
