WHIRLWIND VAUDEVILLE — The final performance of ‘ Broadway Vanities ’ was given in His Majesty’s Theatre last night. There was also a matinee yesterday, and the presents-, tion on both occasions was enthusiastically received fay large audiences, 1 Broadway Vanities ’ was staged with' all the speed and vim of the previous production snd provided a spectacle that is seldom seen on. a local, stage. Comedy was again well .to the fore, while the various specialty dances wer* a feature of the show. TO-NIGHT’S CHANGE. ' The third and final revue of ths Marcus Show will open this evening, when ‘ Revue Continental ’ will ha staged. The company has achieved great popularity with its two previous presentations, ‘La Vie Paree ’ and ‘ Broadway Vanities,’, and, judging by* the success of ‘ Revue Continental * in northern centres, Dunedin audience* should be ; further captivated by this new revue. Embodying all that has been already presented—dancing, singing, spectacle, costumes, and! comedy sqetches—this new revue sparkles with entertainment. Revues of this standard show that the lighter kind of stage entertainment can never lose in popularity if it is presented with due ra gard to the_ criteria by which amusements are judged to-day. The pro*, ducer of the Marcus Show makes it clear_ in a production such as * Revua Continental ’ that he realises a irevua must offer no second-rate fare. Tha programme, like its predecessors, moves without a ■ break from beginning -to end, and offers such a variety in . tha succession of items that the audience has scarcely time to forget its admiration for one act before another takes its place. The settings of the revua are lavish and spectacular, but marked by a taste in colourings and design that never allows them to become gaudy or discordant. In these settings a larga troupe of talented performers offer entertainment of every kind that comes within i the scope of a revue—not revue as 1 Dunedin audiences understand it—but revue as is popular on Broadway-. They are supported by a chorus of attractive girls, dressed daringly enough at times, but always in costumes that are marvels of the designers’ art. The Marcus Show ; has earned deserved popularity during its all-too»-short Dunedin season, and will be remembered by many as the hip, ,t----brightest, and' nest, revue yet to appear on the . boards of His Majesty’s*
