ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of parishioners of All Saints’ Church was held, last night, Archdeacon Whitehead occupying the chair. There was an attendance of about 60. Tho annual report of the churchwardens and vestry stated: Tho receipts from all sources, including sums nob administered by the vestry, amount to £1,958 18s. Tho bank overdraft is £36 16s Bd. The expenditure includes £69 3s 8d for missions and £79 17s 3d for repairs, including installing Broadway heaters in the schoolroom. Tho late Mr R. C. Neil’s legacy of £SOO has been received and invested by the Diocesan Trust Board. Government inscribed stock to the value of £l5O matured during tho year, and this amount, together with the Cuming bequest (£250) paid over, has been lodged at fixed deposit pending an investment. The total endowments now amount to £5,900, made up as follows :—Parish endowment fund, £4,300; other trusts for Sunday school and charitable purposes, £1,600. A new heating system has been installed in the church, and ought to prove a great boon in tho winter months. The cost will be £156, to which sum contributions are invited. Particulars of the offices of tho church: Holy communion, 3,035; baptisms, 63; marriages, 19. During the year Mrs L. D. Cogan and the Misses Lake and Eunice Thomson have provided the church with a new set of burses and veils. Commissioner Wing has sent Scouts to 1 look after our Scout troop, and this has made an enormous improvement in the boys’ training. Miss Lees’s school is to be discontinued as from the end of May this year, and with its passing will go a long-estab-lished institution connected with All Saints. After many years’ service Mrs R. H. Fulton has resigned her office of president of the Mothers’ Union. Mrs Youngman has kindly consented to take her place. Fortunately, Mrs Fulton will still be able to continue her membership of our union. The thanks of the parishioners are duo to tho heads of tho various organisations and societies of the parish. Archdeacon Whitehead moved the adoption of tho annual report and balance sheet, which was seconded by Sir James Allen, who said that the report and balance sheet showed that the church had had a satisfactory vear. Sir James discussed several aspects of the church’s activities, and congratulated members of tho various subsidiary bodies on their work. The report and balance sheet were adopted. GENERAL. A motion of thanks to tho organisations of the church was moved by Dr Ritchie and carried. Dr Ritchie spoke appreciatively of the work of individual members and of the organisations as units. Archdeacon Whitehead referred to improvements that had been made to tho church during the and to gifts that parishioners had given. Tho work of the Ladies’ Guild and other bodies, ho said, had been excellent, and a feature which also was very satisfactory was the fine standard reached by the church troops of Scouts and Cubs. Referring to the financial position of the church, the Chairman said that there was every reason for confidence and satisfaction. The expenditure had increased, and had just about reached its maximum','' but the general _ receipts had also increased materially since 1935. '• Mr O. R. Allen moved a vote of thanks to Mr A. W. Lilly, organist and choirmaster, and tho members of the choir, and Mrs Fulton moved a vote of thanks to the verger (Mr F. Hay). These were carried by acclamation. After tho business of the meeting supper was served. ELECTION OP OFFICE-BEARERS. Officers of tho parish were elected as follows:—Churchwardens, Messrs G. R. Ritchie and W. Whinam; vestrymen—Sir James Allen, Dr Russell Ritchie, Dr Roland Fulton, Messrs Paul Evans, P. W. Mitchell, A. L. Swan, M. Warman, G. Mac Kay, P. E. Homer, and C. Stanley Smith: honorary treasurer, Mr G. D. Wright; honorary secretary to the vestry, Mr W. J. Strong; honorary auditor, Mr Georgo Davidson; parochial nominations—Sir James Allen, Messrs F. Whinam, A. L. Swan, and B. Dickinson.
