" MEETING OF COUNCIL A meeting of the Council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held in the board room of the secretary (Mr 11. Hanning) Inst night. . The president (Mr C. A. Wilson) was in tho chair, and tho members present were Messrs R. E. Turner, S. F. Aburn, W. G. Reid, G. Howes, A. J. White, J. Hutchison, T. 'Long, W. H. Wilson, J. Maconie, S. H. Barnes, W. A. Raffils, R. Fountain, M. Barratt, H. 6. Williams, A. B. Welch. The appointment of Mr P. L. Moore as an honorary ranger, as recommended by the Department of Internal Affairs, was approved. ELECTION OF COMMITTEES. The existing committees were re-ap-pointed with the following chairmen : Game, Mr W. G. Reid; Pheasant, Mr W. 11. Fountain; Finance, Mr C. F. Aburn; Angling, Mr J. M'Ccmie; Research, Mr W. S. Howes; Hatcheries. Mr C. A. Wilson. GAME COMMITTEE. The Game Committee reported that a letter had been received from the Department of Internal Affairs regarding the application of Mr R. A. Mills to obtain a pair of paradise duck for breeding purposes.—lt _ was recommended that the application b© not approved, as the society did not encourage the practice. The department also forwarded authority for Mr J. W. Anderson, of Fresh ford. Wendonside, to shoot pukeko” on his property. It was recommended that the trapping of quail be done this year by Mr Maconie and Ranger MacLeod, the birds procured to be liberated in the same localities as' previously. The report was • adopted, and Mr Maconie intimated that he would be prepared to commence trapping on July 5. ANGLING COMMITTEE." The report of the Angling Committee contained a suggestion from the ranger with regard to the size of hooks for fishing in the Leith and the closing of the Leith for fishing during April in each year.—The suggestion regarding hooks was approved, and the proposed closing of the Leith was left to the council. • The Southland Acclimatisation Society forwarded a draft set of new local special regulations, with a bag limit of 15 and a size limit of llin. —A reply was forwarded stating that the Otago Society had decided to reduce the hag limit to 20 a day, but was not altering tho size limit, and reminding the Southland Society that tho general regulations specified 9in in length. As a result of a letter from the Otago Anglers’ Association regarding the weir in the Leith near M'Gavin’s Brewery, it was resolved to send a copy of the letter to the town clerk asking if the council would erect a fish ladder- to allow the trout to get upstream. Mr J. Cook (Roxburgh) wrote suggesting that young swans should be put on Tomahawk Lagoon to keep down the weed. The report was adopted.
