Mr James Begg left for Wellington by to-day’s express. Colonel S. J. E. Closey, who haa been lecturing to branches of the Farmers’ Union throughout Otago, left on his return to the North Island today. ~ Messrs H. G. Williams and R. Hanning travelled to Christchurch by train, this morning to attend a of South Island acclimatisation societies. Mr T. B. Gusscott, director and gene<i ral manager of J. R. M'Kenzie Ltd., is paying a short visit to Dunedin. A Press Association cable message from Sydney states that Senor Ramon Mas, a Spanish resident of Sydney, has received a cable from Senor Azgarate, Ambassador for Spain in London, appointing him Acting Consul for Spain in Sydney. Senor Mas succeeds Senor Daban. At the annual business meeting of the Gaelic Society of New Zealand, Incorporated, Mr Kenneth Macdonald was elected chief and Messrs R. M'Lean, A, Matheson, A. M'Kenzie, W. H. ; M'Leod, C. Macdonald, P. C. Gray, and Bard A. M'Lennan chieftains for the year. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr B. C. Moodie (Auckland), Mr A, P. H. Sutherland (Wellington), Mr J. Kilpatrick, Miss M. Enright, and Me D. I). Potts (Christchurch), Mr C. W, Bearman (Wellington), .and Mr A, Mueller (Sydney).
