N.Z. HORTICULTURIST HONOURED
■■ AWARDED BRITISH TROPHY [Pbe United Press Association.] WELLINGTON. April 21. Mr H. J. Poole, a well-known horticulturist, of Lower Hutt, has received a cablegram from the Royal Horticultural Society announcing the award to him of the Peter Ban Memorial Cup for his work on behalf of the daffodil. ' The award is a great honour not only to Mr Poole, buo to New Zealand. This is the first time since it was first awarded in 1912 that the cup lias gone outside the United Kingdom. Mr Barr was the first person to take up seriously the culture of the daffodil. Pie visited Now Zealand in 1880, and it was owing to his enthusiasm that the first Daffodil Society was formed in New Zealand in 1899. Mr Poole has received other cablegrams from people in London congratulating him. Ho was also congratulated by many friends at the Lower Hutt autumn show.
