TYRE MONOPOLY STATEMENT
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CORRECTED t NO DECISION MADE {Special to the ‘Stae.'l WELLINGTON, April 22. Suggestions that the Government is contemplating giving a tyre manufacturing interest a New Zealand monopoly and a quarter of a million contribution to its capital are emphatically contradicted by Mr Sullivan (Minister of Industries and Commerce), to whom were referred statements made during a discussion on this subject by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce. “ The comment in regard to the Government’s proposals relative to the establishment of a rubber tyro industry in New Zealand are absolute‘’assumption,” declared the Minister, "and there is no foundation in them. A number of proposals submitted by various interests are under consideration by the Bureau ol Industry, which is the statutory body set up under the Industrie Efficiency Act to consider matters
of this kind. As yet no decision has been made, and it is quite wrong to say that the Government proposes to contributed £250,000 towards the capital of any company.’^
