Tatarescu’s house, and discussed measures to deal with the Iron Guards’ threatening attitude. M. Tatarpscu declared that the police would take the strongest action against a demonstration in favour of Prince Nicholas. Professor Gefiota, surgeon to the Royal Family and ' a member of the Iron Guard, has been arrested and charged with sedition. M. Philipescu, a Conservative, in a speech, attacked the Iron Guards, declaring that every Iron Guard outrage would be answered by tenfold reprisals by the Democratic Party. Meanwhile M. Cantacuzenu, at a meeting of the Iron Guard, read a letter from Prince Nicholas stating that the latter did not refuse to obey King Carol. He did not renounce his rank, hut was degraded by the King. PRINCE NICHOLAS’S ASSERTION. BUCHAREST, April 18. (Received April 19, at 11 a.m.) Prince Nicholas has sent a letter to M. Tatarescu disclaiming his connection with or support of tho Iron Guard. SUGGESTIONS OF COUP DISCOUNTED CONFIDENCE IN KING CAROL. LONDON, April 18. (Received April 19, at 1.45 p.m.) The ‘ News-Chronicle’s ’ Bucharest correspondent discounts suggestions of an Iron Guard coup and) declares that the city is as tranquil as London. The King has the support of a well-paid and well-disciplined army, free of political influence. King Carol discussed the situation with the ‘ News-Chron-icle’s ’ correspondent, declaring, “ I am not really anxious.” The correspondent says King Carol undoubtedly holds the Rumanians’ destiny in his hands. All classes agree that he averted political chaos and steadied the national purse. Any alteration in the regime is unthinkable.
