That “ things are not always what they screen ” was demonstrated in the second reading of the debate in the House of Commons on a Bill prohibiting films involving cruelty to animals, Mr J. Denville cited a film depicting a tiger launching itself at a virtuous maiden who had left the district a fortnight before the tiger actually sprang. Other speakers mentioned mechanical elephants which deceived even a circus proprietor. Tlie horses in ‘ The Charge of the Light Brigade ’ were not brought down by tripwires. India-rubber horses were sometimes used.
