VIOLENT SMASH

CONCRETE POWER POLE SHATTERED town plunged into darkness [Per United Press Association.] BLENHEIM, April 12. Blenheim was in darkness for 20 minutes on Saturday night after a motor car collided with a P. 0 * 6 in the suburb of Springlands. The impact, which was hoard in the town two miles distant, shattered a 35ft reinforced concrete pole in three places, shifting the base five feet. The hightension wires short-circuited. George Donald Dobson (24), a miner, of Mahakipawa, sustained head injuries, one eye being severely affected. John Langdon, of Aniseed, sustained minor injuries. Both were sent to hospital, Langdon being discharged tins morning. The car belonged to Edgar Rowe, of Aniseed, who missed it outside a picture show.
