TAIERI PIPE BAND

ANNUAL MEETING Mr Kemp presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Taieri Highland Pipe Band. Mr A. R. Murray (secretary) read the annual report and balance sheet. Members, in referring to these, complimented the president and secretary on the very satisfactory state of the band’s affairs and the methodical manner in which the books and accounts had been kept. ■ , The report stated that the band had experienced one of its most successful years. The band had played out in the street on a number of occasions, and at any functions where its services were required. The practice attendance had been very satisfactory, especially when a number of players had to come a great distance. ; The baud competed at a contest held at Gore in November and, although they did not collect any cups or shields,, they did not disgrace themselves by any means, and obtained points which would be of service in the future. Halfway through the year the band had suffered a loss through the resignation of Pipe-major Stratton, who could not find time to carry on through change of residence. The hand was now under the tutorship of Pipe-major Renton.' The committee sent a deputation _ to wait on 'the borough council regarding an increase in the subsidy and met with a very favourable response, an increase of £l2 10s being., given. During the year it was found that the band needed new uniforms and, as a result a public meeting was called. A queen carnival was now in progress and, was meeting with good success. The financial position of the band had improved somewhat through the year, due to good public support and the efforts of the band members and the committee. ; - The Chairman, in dealing with the report, voiced a word of appreciation on behalf of the committee and members to Sergeant-major Johnston for ,
