£25 FOR A BRIDE
Yet another tragedy among Albanians arising out of a dispute about the price for a bride is , reported from Southern Serbia. Arif Achmedovitch, * a 17-year-old Albanian, paid the price of 7,000 dinars (about £25) for the hand of Amida Selamanovitch in 1932. ... 'Her guardian, Hamdie Sadikdvitch, however, subsequently refused to allow the marriage and gave' the girl to another suitor at double the price. . Am sued the guardian for the 7,000 dinars, and when he appeared in the court shot him in three places, then pointing the revolver at the successful suitor. He was restrained just in time, but the bands of armed supporters brought by both parties to the court joined battle, and were only arrested when reinforcements had ;been brought up.
