Awatea left Sydney on April 2 for Wellington, where she arrived on April 5. She left that port on April 6; for Sydney, where she arrived yesterday. Aorangi left Auckland on April 5 for Sydney, where she arrived yesterday. Karepo has completed loading at Newcastle,, and left Sydney on April 5 for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due here about April 16. Waitaki left Wellington on April 8 for Lyttelton and Dunedin, taking over the Manama’s run. She was due here to,-day, and will sail this evening for Bluff and Melbourne. She will sail from Melbourne on April 21 for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, commencing a three-weekly schedule. Waikouaiti left Bluff on April 6 for Newcastle and Sydney, to load for New Zealand ports. Mariposa left Melbourne on March 27 and Sydney on March 31 for Auckland, Suva, Pago Pago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. She arrived at Auckland on April 3, and is due at San Francisco on April 19. WAIANA LAUNCHED. —New Union Company Motor Ship. — The Union Steam Ship Company has received cabled advice that its new motor ship Waiana, destined to replace the Wingatui in tlie East Coast cargo trade was successfully launched on February 26 at the yards of Alexander Stephen _ and Sons, Linthouse. The Waiana is expected to leave England about the end of March for Auckland, via the Suez Canal and Colombo, under the command of Captain A. H. Howie. An improved Waimarino, the Waiana is 320 feet in length, with a breadth of 48 feet. Her gross tonnage will be approximately 3,400, and her deadweight carrying capacity 3,850 tons on a draught of 19ft 6in. Her service speed will be 12 knots. The Waiana will embody a number of modern features designed to facilitate the handling of cargo. There will be three holds, each with ’tween-decks, and two five-ton derricks will be placed at each end of eacli batch, giving six sets of gear, in addition to which a heavy-lift derrick, with a capacity of 20 tons, will be provided. The three hatches will be large, each measuring 45ft Gin by 16ft. Modern accommodation amidships will be provided for officers and crew. The Waiana, which has been built for -the coastal trade, is a two-deck ship witli a cruiser stern. The forecastle and poop are arranged for the carriage of cargo, the deckhouse on the fore deck for special cargo, and the open well decks for the carriage of deck cargoes. The propelling machinery, also built by Alexander Stephen and Sons, consists of one set of Stephen-Sulzer Diesel engines of the two-cycle type, with solid injection, having six single-act-ing cylinders of the crosshead type, directly reversible. SAILINGS CANCELLED, —“ Golden ” Shipping Service. — The shipping service from America to Australia and New Zealand run by the Ocean and Oriental Navigation Company has been stopped, pending the ■ adjustment of a mail contract, according to advice received by the Auckland agents, Henderson and Macfarlane Limited. As a result, all sailings of the wellknown “ Goklen ” ships, which maintain a monthly cargo service, have been cancelled except that of the Golden West, from Los Angeles. The Golden Bear has arrived at Auckland from Los Angeles. She will follow the regular schedule and will go from Auckland to Wellington and Australia, and will then return to the Pacific Coast via Honolulu. NEW SERVICE. —Dutch East Indies-New Zealand.— The new service between Saigon, the Straits Settlements and Java to New Zealand to be established by the Koninklijke Pakevaart Maatschappij will be known as the South Pacific line, and will commence to-day with the departure from Saigon of the new motorship Maetsuycker, to be followed by the Van Rees. LONDON’S RISING EXPORT TRADE. Preliminary figures for the value of overseas trade (exclusive of coastwise trade and transhipment of goods under bond) in 1935 reveal that the total value of imports and exports of the United Kingdom amounted to £1,237,177,584. Of this total, the Port of London accounted for 37.7 per cent., or £466,724,261. The value of exports shipped through the Port of London was £145,333,252. This represents 30.2 per cent, of the total exports of the United Kingdom, the highest percentage recorded for 20 years, and an increase of £13,048,147 over 1934. Imports into London during the same year were valued at £321,391,009. LONDON’S SHIPPING. During the week ended February 12, 1,021 vessels, representing 1,038,312 net register tons, used the Port of London. Of these, 499 vessels (814,258 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 522 vessels (224,054 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included six meat cargoes—viz., four from Australia and two from New Zealand, comprising 191,000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 4,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits, and sundries. KAREPO TRANSHIPMENTS. The Karepo sailed from Sydney on Wednesday, April 7, for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff, and is due here about Thursday, April 15. She has on board transhipment cargo ex the following steamers:—Tanda. Comorin, Merkur, Canberra Maru, Kamo Maru, Karrakoola, Jervis Bay, Otranto, Tamon Maru, Taiping, Nieuw Holland. HERTFORD LEAVES AUCKLAND. Loading for London and West- Coast ports at Queen’s Wharf, the Federal Line steamer Hertford sailed from Auckland yesterday afternoon for Wellington. She will complete her cargo at Dunedin.
