BIG FIRE IN MANILA
POPULAR SUBURB PRAGTIGALLY DESTROYED THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HOMELESS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MANILA, April 8. Fire destroyed one and a-half square miles of the popular Tondo district. One hundred thousand people are homeless. There has been one death, while 11 people were injured. The entire Manila Fire Department and troops fought the blaze* for four hours. It started in a laundry, and a high wind drove the flames quickly toward Manila Bay. Abatement of the wind prevented greater damage.
