Deciding to sell' the town’s war souvenirs as scrap iron, the Folkestone Council accepted 22s 6d a ton for a British tank, field gun, and a German howitzer, which were presented by the National War Savings Committee in recognition of support of war loans. The ‘ News-Chronicle,’ in a leader, says: “So memorials to a war that was to end war, set up so proudly, now go back to the melting pot to help in the preparations for the next war.”
