HOUSEWIVES' UNION

INTRODUCTION OF POLICEWOMEN ADVOCATED The usual monthly meeting of the above union ’took place on Tuesday afternoon last. Mrs A. Herbert occupied the chair. After'the minutes were read, some discussion took place on the high price of foodstuffs, especially the necessaries of everyday existence. It was thought that the attention of the Government should be drawn to this matter, so that it might be remedied in the near future. The price of milk a quart was commented upon, as, on the ordinary income, where there were young families, the cost was prohibitive. Mrs Herbert gave a resume of the conference of the New Zealand Labour Party held in Wellington during Easter week. She specially stressed the support given by members of the conference to the introduction of policewomen in New Zealand, and also spoke of the help given at the conference by the legal fraternity to this remit. The recommendation of training schools for the domestic worker also came up for discussion at the conference, and an indication was given that something would be done in the near future.
