ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
ALONE IN MORTAL SICKNESS. At the inquest at Napier on the body of Thomas Simpkin, who died yesterday morning in hospital, the coroner returned a verdict that death was duo to pneumonia. His brother gave evidence that he had received a letter from the deceased saying that he was ill, and asking if he would go to him. Witness said he did not go because of the climatic conditions. That was his only reason. The deceased was found lying unconscious in a whare on Richmond block on Monday evening. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. Catherine Matthews, aged 75, residing at 65 Arthur street, was knocked down by a motor car in Moray place this morning, and was admitted to the Hospital at 10.40, suffering from a fractured right am. FALL FROM RAILWAY TRUCK. William Harrison, aged 56, residing as 16 Magnetic street. Port Chalmers, was admitted to Hospital at 8.30 p.m. yesterday* with ‘ a fractured right femur, received when he fell from a railway truck at Port Chalmers.
