—Ministerial.— The Minister of Railways and Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) arrived by the Central Otago train last night, and was later entertained at the Vedic by the Otago Labour Representation Committee. This morning the Minister received private deputations at bis hotel, and afterwards left by special train for Christchurch. A number of stops were to be made en route to deal with railway business. The Minister of Internal Affairs and Pensions (the Hon. W. E. Parry) arrived last night from Balclutha and Milton. The Minister has been conferring with the Bruce, Clutha, and Tuapeka County Councils on the provisions of the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill, which is to come before Parliament next session. He went north by car at noon to-day, and at the request of the Oamaru_ Rotary Club > and Beautifying Society was to deliver an address in the Opera House this afternoon on tree planting and beautification work. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, arrived from Christchurch by air this afternoon. To-morrow morning he will leave for Alexandra.
Mr J. W. Munro, M.P., returned yesterday from Timaru. Mr James Payne, Assistant Trade Commissioner for Australia, arrived in Dunedin yesterday. Mr James Brown, accompanied by his wife, left by the second express this morning, en route to England to attend the Coronation.
Mr W. H. L. Williams was a through passenger from Invercargill by tms morning’s second train.
Mr Somerset Smith travelled from Invercargill by the through express today on his way to Wellington. Detective-sergeant Le Sueur was a passenger by the second express for Timaru this morning. Accompanying the Minister of Railways and Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) on his trip north by special train this morning were Mr G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways, Mr L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Tourist Department, Mr A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager of railways, Mr H..L* Gibson, local traffic manager, Mr P. H. Morey, district^ railways engineer, and Mr K. M. Sleight, the Minister’s private secretary. Sir .James Allen, who is a Grand Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, has received advice from Sir Frank Swettenham, King of Arms, that a mecurial gilt plate bearing, his name has now been affixed in the St. Michael and St George chapel in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. A Press Association cable message from London states that Lord Snell was re-elected chairman of the London County Council at the first, meeting of the newly-elected council. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are:—Mr C. A. Black and Mr and Mrs W, Thatcher Brown (Sydney), Miss Evans (Auckland), Mr G. G. Stewart, Mr M. Quirk, Mr James Payne, and Mr R. H. Webb (Wellington), Mr T. S. Moore (Christchurch), Mr J. Reed and Mr J. Robertson (Invercargill), and Mr D. E. Route (Wellington).
