WEATHER FORECAST

IMPROVEMENT SHORTLY The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orcpuki, Bluff, Halfrqopn Bay:— Another of the present series of depressions is crossing the Dominion, but the anti-cyolono which has been stationary over Tasmania for several days is now moving eastwards. Conditions are therefore more favourable for a milder type of weather developing shortly. Forecast: Moderate to strong southerly winds, of gale force at places. Weather cold and unsettled, with rain at times and in places hail; but later improving. Seas rough. RAIN STILL THREATENS. Though some slight improvement in the weather was noticeable yesterday afternoon, when temperatures rose considerably, rain commenced once more earlv this morning, after a chilly night. Though the fall had ceased by daylight, its heaviness had been sufficient to record .12in over the 24-honr period terminating at 9 o’clock this morning. At noon, the barometer indicated a steady pressure of 29.45 in; there was a moderate south-westerly wind blowing, and the sky was overcast, holding some threat of further rain during the afternoon. Temperatures over 24 hours yesterday were 53.6 and 40deg maximum and minimum respectively, while to-day 55 and 50.5 deg were the registrations until noon.
