AMERICAN WRESTLING BOOM

[By Hookeb.]

DEAN DETTDH AS CHAMPION PAUL BOESCH'S IMPRESSIONS

Paul Boesch, who was probably the most popular _ member of the team of wrestlers to visit New Zealand last season, states in. a letter to the writer that although it was four months since he had his last match in the Dominion he was still getting “ fan ’’ letters and requests for photographs, and he fulfilled them, too. Paul said he would like to return for another season—he had such a “ swell ” time. He had been approached to return this year, but he had a big year ahead of him in the United States, and he did not think he would be'able to make it. “ The wrestling business is still booming here, and Dean Detton is a fine champion,” Paul proceeds. “ But he is not the clean wrestler he used to be when you knew him. He is managed by ‘ Gentleman ’ Jack Washburn, a former rough-house wrestler, and Jack has taught him all the tricks he knew, and they are sure plenty. Dean uses them all to hang on to his crown. “ The ‘ Red Shadow ’ is . startling everyone in this section (New York), and has piled up a pretty formidable list of victims without losing a fall—he has beaten all the bic ‘ shots ’ that have come his way, and even Detton was unable to gain a fall on him, “ Vic. Christy liuS also given Detton a tough go up liere. He is one of the fastest and cleanest in the game, and they say he is going to New Zealand. An American boy with Scottish parents is also said to be going. His name is Don. M'lntyre, and he has a nice record. He is a fine performer, and ought to go over big in Dunedin.” Boesch adds tl.-t Mr “Charlie” Finer, secretary of the Otago Wrestling Association, is often remembered by them, and also their many other good friends in Dunedin* .
