FRUIT AND PRODUCE

GOOD INQUIRY FOR APPLES Business in the fruit and produce market during the week has been fair, although weather conditions have affected sales and consignments. Smaller consignments of stone fruits are being received. Nectarines have firmed in price, and for good quality peaches there has been a fair demand. ■Small consignments of apricots are still coining to hand, and smaller supplies of dessert plums have been received. Fair consignments of have been arriving, principally from Nelson, and for good quality Coxes Orange, there is a good inquiry. Other varieties being received, are Worcester Pearmams, Jonathans, Delicious, and Dunn’s Favourite. Fairly heavy consignments of dessert pears are also arriving. Bonchretiens are finished for the season, and the varieties consist principally of Buerre Bose, Louis Bon Jersey, and Jackham’s Triumph, and values for these are slightly higher. Values are slightly firmer for hothouse grapes, while, (wing to the unsatisfactory season, outdoor-grown tomatoes aro much below last year's grade. Californian oranges, grapefruit, and lemons have met with an excellent inquiry. A further shipment of this fruit is duo by the Wamarino on Saturday, while a small shipment of Queensland pine apples by the Waikouaiti has met with a good inquiry. Samoan and Niue bananas are expected in Dunedin on Wednesday. Fine quality strawberries are arriving from the Waimato district, while there is a good demand for blackberries.

With the exception of cauliflowers, other lines of fresh vegetables are in good supply, and meeting with failinquiry. Although the quality of lettuce is excellent, weather conditions are against the demand. Fair supplies of potatoes are arriving, some of the lines being badly affected with blight; There is an excellent demand for honey, the market being particularly firm. The egg market is firm at Is Bd, with every prospect of a further increase. Increased consignments of poultry are to hand, values being on a par with those of last week.
