MOTOR CYCLE COMPETITIONS

HILL-CLIMBING EVENTS The motor cj r cle section of the Automobile Association (Otago) held, its % nual hill-climbing contest at, Bethuue’s Gully on Saturday afternoon. Conditions were ideal and the hill was in very good order, which enabled riders to give a fine demonstration of riding. There were exceptionally few mishaps, most of them resulting from the riders taking the corners too widd and experiencing some difficulty with the opposite bank. An outstanding feature of the afternoon was the effort of B. F. Rosson, on a 1920 model 7-9 h.p. M. and RSpecial, who broke the existing record for the hill in addition to winning the Passmore . Cup. In the unlimited class this rider clipped one second off the record 1 of Imin 16 4-ssec established last year by H. R. llendell, riding a 3J h.p. J.A.P. machine, while in the event for the Passmore Cup, for cycles up to 1,000 c.c., this machine was ridden into first place in Imin 17 3-ssec. Another 1920 machine, a 5-6 h.p. Munro Special, ridden by H. J. Munro, was placed) third, equal with C. H. Walker (3J h.p. New Imperial, 0.h.v.) in this event. The distance being completed in Imin 21 2-ssec.
