TASMANIAN ELECTIONS

CLOSE CONTEST EXPECTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright HOBART, February 18. (Received February 18, at 11 a.m.) An extremely close contest is expected in the Tasmanian General Election on Saturday. The Labour Government in the last seven and a-half years has depended on the vote of the Douglas Credit member, Mr Carruthers, for its majority. It is considered unlikely that Mr Carruthers will be returned, and if the Nationalists _ win his seat and the other seats remain unchanged both parties would bo represented by 15 in a house of 30.
