Left: PORTRAIT OF SIR JAMES ALLEN.—A reproduction of the portrait of the veteran statesman which was presented to the National ' Art Gallery, Wellington, the artist being Mr Archibald Nicholl. So - well supported was the fund for the making of, the portrait that there was sufficient to permit of another being presented to the city of Dunedin. The second portrait,- by the same artist, will be housed, in the Dunedin Art Gallery after being displayed in Allen Hall, Otago University, with which Sir James had an intimate connection for so long as Chancellor and member of the council..
