CARDINAL - SECRETARY OF STATE. —A recent picture, taken in Rome, of the adviser to the Pope and closest friend - of His Holiness during the recent serious illness of Pius XL Eugenius Pacelli was born at Rome Cl years ago and was created cardinal on December 16, 1929. He holds the offices of Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs and , Secretary of State. Cardinal Pacelli recently visited the United States, and while there covered an enormous area by flying, visiting most of the chief centres. His Eminence being the first cardinal to visit that country. He lives in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
