WATERFRONT LABOUR CONDITIONS CHAIRMAN OF HARBOUR BOARD SPEAKS OUT [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 17. In reference to changing labour 'conditions, at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, the chairman (Mr C. G. Macindoe) said the waterside workers were getting more money and had reduced hours. ” The operations of the port as far as waterside workers are concerned are an absolute disgrace in Auckland and in other main ports,” he said ‘‘ Work is restricted to an absolute minimum, and. that is a serious charge on the primary producers of the country.” Mr Macindoe said that in other ports, where ships used their own gear for handling cargo, twice the amount of work was done compared with what was done in Auckland with modern facilities. question would have to be considered by those employing labour, and the board, which was vitally affected, would have to do something to see that the position was corrected.
