RED GROSS SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Red jss Society was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (president), Miss Rattray, Miss Graham, Mrs Sydney Neill, Miss M'Leau, and Messrs A. N; Haggitt and J. W. Smeaton. Mr King said that two of their soldiers, Messrs J. M'Kendry and C. M'Neil, who had boon inmates at Montecillo Home lor some time, had passed to their rest during the Christmas time. Everything humanly possible had been done to make life a little easier for them. They had served their country well, and throughout their sickness had evinced a wonderful spirit. From the patents a heartfelt acknowledgment of the services of the Red Cross, the staff, and doctor had been received.

Letters of appreciation from Wakari and Seacliff Hospitals for gifts to patients, and also from several exsoldiers whose families had been given a little assistance had also been received.

Mr Ferens (secretary of tho R.S.A.) wrote concerning the admission of an ex-soldier from Gatlins to the Red Cross Home for a term. Mr King reported that tho medical officer had been seen on the matter, and it was arranged to admit the man.—Approved. It was reported that there were 18 soldier patients at the Dunedin Uospital and two at Wakari. Matron Donglass reported that everything at Montecillo Home was going along satisfactorily. Following the vacation 12 patients had returned to the home. During the month two patients had been admitted and two transferred to the Public Hospital. Grateful thanks were expressed to all friends who had sent gifts for the men, and to the Otago Womeirls Club Motor Circle for drives. Miss M'Lean said that, the Otago Women’s Club was providing some entertainment for the inmates of Talboys Home. For tho past year members of tho club’s motor circle had regularly taken their soldier patients for drives into the country. The men were very grateful for the kindness shown. On the motion of Mr Rmeaton it was resolved to write to the Hub conveying the society's warmest appreciation. Mrs Sydney Neill asked for leavc_ of absence on account of her leaving shortly on a trip to the Homeland. It was resolved that leave he granted, and Mr King said that all members hoped that Mrs Neill would have an enjoyable trip.
