AMATEUR NOTES R. SIVERSTOH’S FAST KILOMETRE t [By Pistol.] Conditions were very nearly perfect for unpaoed riding last Saturday afternoon, when the Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club staged an unpaoed kilometre event, in conjunction with which handicaps in time were made for the purpose of prize placings. R. Sivertaen certainly showed his ability for unpaced "riding by making the fast time of Imin 24 2-ssec and being only 2-ssec outside of the Otago record put up by G. Foster several seasons ago. Although this time is well outside the New Zealand and world s record, it is, nevertheless, fast for, f* l6 Caledonian track. Homer and Chatmers also xodo well, both doing Inun 26sec The most improved rider on the day was K. Denton, who reduced his own time for the distance by 4sec, thereby giving him a win in the handicap section. ... ~ Ted Boyd improved his time considerably and collected second place in the handicap. Other riders who unproved their times were C. Ralston, A, Fletcher, A, Tate, and J. M'Connell, while W. Sivertscn, •R. Fullerton, and R. Quigley did not ride up'to expectations. In the one mile handjcap the front markers made .the most of their handicaps in the . Keats, ■ which resulted in none of the back men getting into the final. Horral and Quigley were virtual scratch, in the. final,, and, although^ they caught the rest they were Unable to beat the front markers in the sprint. J, M'Connell showed that, he will be a force to be reckoned with in the junior championship, winning easily from A. Tate, Scoles being third. The scratch men were unable to get into the placings in the three-mile event, although the short markers caught the field easily and took the major placings. . , - . W. 'Chalmers had no difficulty in sprinting the rest of the field over the line, A. Fletcher, off the same mark, taking second place. . Following are the positions for the various trophies being competed for:- — Hay Cup.—R. Sivertson 55 points, G. Homer 54, W. Chalmers 29, R. Quigley, K. Denton 16, A. Tate, J. Hornel 12, J.
