CHILDREN’S REST HOME.
TO THB EDITOR. Sir.—Would you kindly allow me to explain why I have resigned from the committee of the Children’s Rest Home? In December of last year, following on an application from the manager, Mr Dunkley, the Government allocated £2OO from art union funds to the Children’s Rest Home. As it is against our principles as a family to take part in work financed by such means, I protested at the next committee meeting, and asked that the money should be declined. A second meeting was held some days later, when the matter was put to the vote, and the majority of those who were ■present were against accenting the money. Mr Dunkley then called upon me and explained that he was finding it quite impossible to carry on the work without Government assistance, which, of course, included the £2OO from art union funds. I told him that I had no wish to stand in his way, and that therefore I would resign from the committee. My sisters support me in this, and we have now severed our connection with the rest home. In doing so we have no desire to judge those members of the committee or other helpers who differ from us.—l am, etc., Agnes Hill Jack. February 12.
