NATIONAL WORKERS' MOVEMENT The general meeting, of the Dunedi* branch of the National. Unemployed Workers’ Movement was held in . the Trades Halil on Tuesday evening. . Cr. M. Silverstone (president) presided over a> very large attendance of member* and their wives. Correspondence waa ■read from the Hon. F. Jones (Poet* master-General), Gore Committee o| the N.U.W.M., Auckland Branch* N. Hon. M. J. Savage (Prim* Minister), the .Empire Emigration Settlement Group, London, and variona other local organisations. The organising report submitted by the secretary showed that four members had joined since last meeting,, transferred numbered one, and clearances granted to men on receiving full time work totalled 23, leaving the membership under th* 900 . mark. The secretary reported on interviewing the placement officer and also the Labour Bureau officials in regard to the various complaints received at the last meeting, and said a satis* faoiory agreement had' been reached.: A discussion took place in regard .to the latest information received re th* war veteran’s pension. The secretary stated that he had been in touch , with the Returned Soldiers’ Association officials in regard to the Poppy Day men* and explained the conditions as far a* employment with the City Council was concerned. As'the next meeting is th* quarterly one, the president , asked, all to make an effort to attendees after the meeting a social evening with rap* per would be provided. The chairmaar gave an interesting address on th* Spanish situation, and was accorded.# vote of thanks. ST. KELDA RELIEF DEW A meeting of the committee of .th* Mayor’s Relief Organisation in St. Hilda was held last evening. The de-puty-mayor (Mr G. Gliie) presided. Th* prices submitted by the St. Hilda coal merchants were accepted, and it was decided to commence the issue of coal next Wednesday. Orders will be taken from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m. at the depot by th* secretary. The prices will be the sain* as last year—Haitangata 2a 6d and lignite Is 6d. It was decided that* commencing from next Wednesday* February 3, the depot will be open for the purchase of clothing, boots, etc., on Wednesday evenings only, and not on Wednesday and Friday as hitherto. 1 Accounts amounting to £34 16s 8d wer* passed for payment. All men in St. Hilda on sustenance or relief work must . reregister for 1937. and these reregistrations will be taken on Wednesday neit, February 3, between 6.50 and 7.30 p.in. Pink time-books must be produced when reregistering and every time coal or ahjJ goods are purchased from the depot* The balance sheet for the -Christina* cheer was submitted. by the secretary and adopted. , A special vote of thank* was passed to all those who had donated money and kind l to make the children happy at Christmas.
