CORPORATION IMPROVEMENTS

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT'S PREMISES RECONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING PROPOSED The electric power and lighting committee recommends that authority he granted by the City Council to invite tenders for effecting alterations and additions to the department’s building on the western side of Cumberland street, in accordance with plan prepared. The plan provides for the reconstruction of the whole of the building by the erection of two floors covering the whole area and a third floor on the front half of the section fronting Cumberland street. The additional accommodation is urgently needed in order to provide adequate working space for the staff, which has increased very largely since the existing premises were put into use. The third floor portion of the building is intended to accommodate the city electrical engineer and office staff, including the draughtsmen. The transfer_ of the engineer’s staff to a new building will leave the present office available for the installation inspectors practically without alteration, and l , at the same time, the existing draughting room will be completed for use as a dining room and assembly hall for all members of the staff whose headquarters are located in Cumberland street.
