AN INTERESTING STAGE REACHED The first grade matches which are being continued to-morrow should be of unusual interest to cricket followers, inasmuch as the results will have a distinct bearing on the competition for this season. Carisbrook A, who with Albion are at the head of the competition with 31 points, take strike against their 11 team, whom they dismissed for 157 runs in the first innings. Last Saturday Carisbrook A had made 1 run for no wickets, when rain terminated play, but should they be successful in pass-

ing Carisbrook B team’s total in quick time, they should then have a fair chance of registering an eight-point win, which would place them in a strong position for the premiership, particularly ns Albion, the other leading team, "who arc bowling to Grange, have taken only six wickets for the substantial total of 242. and it thus appears that Albion wilt have to he in their best form to register even a fivepoint win. The Carisbrook A v. Carisbrook B match is at Carisbrook, while Albion and Grange are playing at the North Ground. Grange are the only other first grade team who are within striking position in the competition, having 25 points to their credit. At Logan Park, University will continue their match against Old Boys, who have made 150 runs in the first innings; while at Tonga Park Kaikorai, with 153 for live wickets, will continue play against Dunedin.
