AMATEUR ATHLETICS

VISIT OF JAPANESE TEAM [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 29. Doubt whether the tour of the Japanese athletes in February and March would pay its way was expressed by Mr A. C. Kitto at the adjourned annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. He suggested that the tourists be asked to compete on Wednesdays, or other weekdays, in addition to a weekly’ meeting, ancl also to appear for coaching ami training, not only to augment the financial return, but to give country clubs an opportunity of seenig them in .action. The chairman, Mr R. W. M'Villy, said that in the past nearly every overseas team had complained of not having sufficient time between contests. A motion was carried that the centres should not permit the athletes to compete at any advertised meetnig other than those set out in the itinerary without permission of the. council.
