DRUIDISM

The Otago Lodge met last Monday evening, when Arch Druid Bro. Harbour presided over a large attendance of membes. Prior to conducting any business the Arch Druid called oh those pre--sent to join with him in singing the National Anthem as an expression of legiance to our new Sovereign, King George VI. Correspondence included several invitations for Christmas meetings and acknowledgements of greetings for the festive season. The secretary's balance sheet for the six months ending November was presented and adopted. Sick pay therein was again noticed to be very high, which shows that the order is faithfully- fulfilling its obligations. A vote was taken for district president for the ensuing terra, Bros. Wilson and Shepherd being the contestants for the* position. After supper greetings were extended to the Arch Druid and reciprocated, and the social hour was enjoyed by all present. The children’s night will be announced later. A.D. Bro. T. Gray presided over a large attendance of members and visitors at the last meeting of Ivanhoe Lodge, held in the Manchester Unity Chambers, Stuart street, on Wednesday last. A fair amount of correspondence was dealt with. The sick bards reported fully on their visit to sick members, and sick pay was passed for payment. It was resolved to leave the children’s night until after the New Year._ One new member was proposed for initiation. The usual Christmas donations were passed for payment. ’J.P.A. Bro. Brockie reported on the enjoyable evening spent at Royal Oak Lodge. The lodge meeting to be held on December 30 is cancelled. Several brothers spoke with regard to the cricket matches with sister lodges. The season’s greetings were extended to A.D. Bro. Gray, who returned thanks. The usual loyal toasts were duly honoured, and were responded to by Bro. P. Neames, of Enterprise Lodge; Supper was handed round, and the rest of the evening was spent in a game of cards, A.D. versus V.A., and resulted in a win for the A.D. team by 9 games to 8.
