BIG IRRIGATION SCHEME

LEVELS PLAIN PROJECT OFFICIALLY OPENED BY MINISTER [Per United Press Association.J TIMARU, December IP. The Levels Plain irrigation scheme, which is estimated to cost £69,000, and which will supply water to an area ot 12,800 acres, was officially opened by the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to-day. The Minister said he was convinced of the value of irrigation, and hoped in future to commence larger schemes in Canterbury and elsewhere. He paid a tribute to the Public . Works-engineer (Mr T, G. Beck), and praised engineers in his department in general, stating that he regarded them as equal to any in the world.
